92% of Gen Z and 90% of millennial consumers are more likely to trust a brand that supports social or environmental issues. More than ever before, brands are becoming more conscious of the importance of being eco-friendly in order to continue to attract new consumers & maintain existing ones. A great way to demonstrate to consumers that you are an environmentally conscious brand is to participate in Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program.
Amazon introduced its Climate Pledge Friendly program to “highlight products that meet sustainability standards and help preserve the natural world.” The Climate Pledge Friendly badge was created to help consumers discover and shop for more sustainable products.
The platform has also partnered with trusted third-party certifications in order to create “Compact by Design” to help customers discover products that meet sustainability standards and help preserve the natural world.
There is no fee for qualifying products to participate in Climate Pledge Friendly and to qualify, Amazon’s requirements are as follows:
Your product must be certified by:
- One or more of the qualifying third-party sustainability certification
- Have the Compact by Design certification*
The benefits of inclusion in Climate Pledge Friendly are:
- Climate Pledge Friendly badge appearing in shopping results and detail pages
- Inclusion in the Climate Pledge Friendly landing page
- Possible inclusion in other store merchandising opportunities.
The bad news is you can’t actually “apply” for this program, however, the good news is that Climate Pledge Friendly products are identified using automated data updates from the certifiers. As a brand, you don’t need to do anything. Amazon Sellers should review the full list of sustainability certifications and if a product is already certified, Amazon will receive updates from the certifiers themselves to identify Climate Pledge Friendly products and you should automatically be enrolled.
If your brand is working towards getting a particular certification or you want to apply, Amazon encourages sellers to work directly with the certifying program based on your sustainability goals.
Why it’s important:
First and foremost, the Climate Pledge Friendly badge shows potential consumers that your brand is supporting sustainability and planning for the future. But also, we have recently noticed that on product listings where brands do not have the badge, Amazon is recommending other brands who do. Something to think about!
