When the Out of Office goes on, holiday mode has officially started. But, what about if you’re a business owner selling on Amazon – can you really take a much-needed break without worrying about who will manage your Amazon orders?

With Amazon Vacation Settings, your business can keep growing while you go on holiday mode – now that’s a win! 

The vacation settings on Amazon is a tool the platform offers sellers who want or have to take some time away from their business. The setting allows brands to set listings to ‘inactive’ for a shorter or longer period of time, so you won’t risk getting negative feedback due to unresponsiveness while you’re away.

Who is eligible for Amazon Vacation Settings?

This setting is available to brands that sell via Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) and you will need to set your listing to inactive up to 36 hours before you leave to give enough time for the changes to be made but also to stop any last-minute orders coming in.

If you have Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA) listings, these will stay active on Amazon. The upside to this is Amazon will handle this while you’re away on holiday so your business can keep growing. The downside is that you need to keep managing messages. So, if you have a trusted team member who is able to do this for you – great! Otherwise, this will require some check-ins mid-cocktail sipping.

 

What to do before you turn on Amazon Vacation Settings

Here’s what you need to have set before switching off:

1. All pending orders are fulfilled: Shoppers won’t want to wait until you’re back from holiday, so make sure all orders are fulfilled before you leave.
2. Create automated customer messages: People like to know what’s going on even if you’re away. And, Amazon also requires all messages to be answered within 24 hours. So, set up automated messages telling people when you will be back from holidays so they can expect a response then.
3. Customer refund set-up: The sort of bad news is that you must process any refunds that come through within 24 hours even if you’re on holiday mode. Options are to set up automatic refunds during this time period or change your settings to receive return notifications via email and accept or reject these manually while you’re away. With FBA, though, the refunds are being taken care of automatically by Amazon.
4. Inactivate listings with plenty of notice: Another important reminder to set your listings inactive up to 36 hours before so you have time to fulfil orders before you leave.

 

Side note: For those unexpected life moments, like a family emergency, you can set listings to inactivate and it will only take 1 hour to do so.

 

Amazon Vacation Settings: How does it work?

So, as we have talked about, if you are unable to fulfil orders for any reason – not just whilst on holiday – you can change your Listings Status to ‘inactive’. This will remove all of your listings from the product’s detail page as well as search results.

You can choose between changing the status of your listings for all marketplaces or for specific marketplaces only if you are a seller on multiple Amazon marketplaces. You can easily reactivate your listing whenever you’re ready from your Seller Central account and it will be live again within the hour.

 

How to turn on holiday mode:

From within your Seller Central account, you can follow these steps:

> Settings > Account > Listing Status – “Going on Holidays?”

Choose between listings & marketplaces > Click Off-holiday > Save
