Amazon Product Listing New Requirements for a Superior Shopping Experience

Amazon is rolling out some new changes to listing requirements in an effort to improve the shopping experience.

From December 11, 2023, the requirements to create listings will change for all products in Amazon’s worldwide stores ( which amounts to 1,750 types) except those from media, digital and handmade categories.

Listing attributes tell specific details about the product and are required from Amazon. They also give customers extra information too that helps them make better purchase decisions.

For example, if you’re selling clothing your attributes include target gender, manufacturer, weaver etc.

The affected products range from sporting goods, home appliances, pet supplies and more. You can check which product types and attributes will see these changes in this spreadsheet!

Why is Amazon shifting from 360 to 3D models?

These updates will reduce listing errors caused when attributes are required, but may not be marked as “required” when you list a product.

The changes are also designed to help customers make more informed purchase decisions by giving required attributes that provide more information about the products.

 

When will this change come into effect?

From December 11, 2023! It’s important to note that existing listings won’t be affected, these changes will only apply when you create a new listing.

When you edit an existing listing, you may be asked to provide additional information to meet the new requirements.

 

What changes will be rolled out?

The following changes will gradually be rolled out to all sellers between December 11, 2023 and February 1, 2024:

  • Add Products: As the changes have been rolled out, any seller using the “Add Products” page will see updated requirements when they create or edit listings.
  • Add Products via Upload: From December 11, all sellers using “Add Products via Upload” can choose to upgrade to new listing templates with updated attribute requirements.

When you select a product category for your listing, you’ll see a banner with a link to download the new template. However, Amazon will continue to accept listing submissions using templates with the previous requirements.

To download the previous template, click the toggle button in the top right of the banner.

Amazon will give at least 30 days’ notice on the Add Products via Upload page before the updated template becomes the default option.

 

Our thoughts

While this is a relatively small change, it can make a big impact on seller experience and will require sellers to be agile!

However, these new requirements underscore Amazon’s commitment to facilitating a better shopping experience for customers, thanks to more detailed and relevant product information.
